A player deep in a late-night raid session

The Gaming Expedition Journal

Every raid, mapped in marble-clear detail.

We chart the hardest encounters in modern RPGs and MMOs — boss timelines, gear thresholds, and the quiet decisions that win the pull. Written from a small studio in Chippendale, Sydney.

A note from the founder

Written by someone who wipes on the same boss you do.

I started RuneRaidExpedition in 2019 after posting one too many raid post-mortems in my guild's Discord. The blog is still small on purpose — no sponsored fluff, no auto-generated tier lists. Every guide here comes from encounters I have actually cleared, timed, and re-run until the strategy holds up on a Tuesday-night pug.

If a mechanic is confusing, I say so. If a patch broke my advice, I update the page and note the date. That is the whole promise.

What we cover

Four columns we publish every week.

Raid boss encounter breakdown

Raid Strategy Breakdowns

Phase-by-phase boss timelines with cooldown maps. Published within 72 hours of a mythic-tier release. Free to read, always.

Latest: "Hollow Reign — Warden of Ash" full clear guide. Includes the 2-tank swap timing most pugs miss on phase three.

Honest RPG review desk setup

Honest RPG Reviews

30+ hours logged before every score. No pre-release embargoed hype, no affiliate pressure. Just what held up after the credits.

We score on four axes — combat, world, story, and grind fairness — and publish our full playtime and build so you can judge the bias.

Gear and build theorycrafting notes

Build & Gear Theorycraft

Spreadsheet-backed stat priorities and budget alternatives. We show the math, not just the meta pick everyone copies.

Every build page lists a "good enough" version for casual players and a min-max version for progression raiders, side by side.

Weekly Patch Notes, Decoded

Every Thursday we translate the raw patch notes into "what actually changes for your main." Free newsletter, no spam — join over 4,000 Australian and global readers.

Reader Q&A Sessions

Stuck on a pull? Send it in. Once a fortnight I record a written walkthrough answering reader submissions — free, credited, and archived on the site.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is the content free to read?+

Yes — every guide, review, and build page is free with no paywall. The site runs on a small optional reader membership and the free Thursday newsletter, so you never hit a locked article mid-strategy.

How quickly are raid guides published after a release?+

We aim for a working strategy within 72 hours of a mythic-tier boss going live. Early guides are marked "provisional" and get refined as we log more clears, with an edit date at the top so you always know how current the advice is.

Do you take sponsored or paid reviews?+

No. We buy the games we review and disclose any review copies clearly. Scores are never negotiated, and there are no affiliate links steering our recommendations. That independence is the entire reason the blog exists.

Can I submit my own encounter for a walkthrough?+

Absolutely. Send your stuck pull through the contact form below with the game, boss, and difficulty. Every fortnight we pick reader submissions for a written walkthrough, and we credit you by name unless you ask us not to.

Which games and platforms do you focus on?+

Primarily PC and console RPGs and MMOs with serious raid or endgame content. We follow a rotating shortlist of live-service titles and cover single-player RPGs at launch. If enough readers request a game, it goes on the schedule.
